Hueber Homes is proud to stand behind the next generation of builders and tradesman
by supporting the Dan Beard Council of the Boy Scouts of America in their
groundbreaking initiative: the Dever Family Skilled Trades Center at Camp
Friedlander.
As an industry, we're facing a growing crisis in the skilled trades. Across our region, local businesses like Hueber Homes, are struggling to find qualified talent to fill essential roles in construction, electrical work, plumbing, and more.
As seasoned professionals retire over the next decade, this shortage will only intensify—threatening
the future of our industry and the communities we serve.
At the same time, high school graduates are increasingly seeking career paths that offer
purpose, stability, and growth—without the financial burden of a traditional four-year
college. That’s where Hueber Homes sees opportunity.
As a company built on craftsmanship, integrity, and community, Hueber Homes is
proud to support the Dan Beard Council of the Boy Scouts of America in their
development of the new Dever Family Skilled Trades Center at Camp Friedlander.
This facility will be more than a building—it will be a launchpad for future tradespeople.
While Scouting has long introduced youth to skilled trades through merit badges and
hands-on activities, local access to these experiences has been limited. The new
Skilled Trades Center will change that. It will provide a safe, effective, and inspiring
venue for Scouts and community youth to explore high-demand trades through
immersive learning in carpentry, electrical work, robotics, and more.

This 10,000-square-foot facility, set to open in November 2025, will immerse scouts in
hands-on learning across a wide range of trades—from carpentry and plumbing to
robotics and automotive maintenance. It’s a bold response to the growing shortage of
skilled workers in Greater Cincinnati, where the gap currently stands at 60,000
professionals.
The Dan Beard Council has realigned its Districts to keep entire public school districts
together, utilize easy transportation routes, and enable a critical mass of volunteers to
build strong District teams to support units. This effort will enable DBC to optimize
resources in the best way possible to ensure that all Scouting within our council
boundaries is able to grow and thrive, and distribute limited staff and volunteer
resources so that all youth and units have the opportunity to benefit from a fully
supported Scouting experience.
Hueber Homes, a leader in craftsmanship and community development, is helping
equip the homebuilding-focused classrooms with essential tools and resources. As part
of a $5,000 commitment from the Home Builders Association (HBA), Hueber Homes
joins other HBA members in a matching campaign to raise an additional
$5,000—bringing the total to $10,000 in support of this transformative learning space.
“This center isn’t just about teaching skills—it’s about opening doors,” said Andy Zahn, CEO of the Dan Beard Council. “We’re marrying the values of scouting with technical proficiency to prepare young people for meaningful careers”.
Hueber Homes encourages fellow builders and community partners to join the effort.
